Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 16 to 21 January 2017

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi witnessed the take-off of the “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2017”, which took place from 16- 21 January 2017. The event was organized by “MASDAR”, and a number of companies contributed to it. 


The event mentioned, is a global platform for international dialogue and cooperation for the adoption of sustainable development and renewable energy policies in the UAE and the world. It is also the largest gathering on sustainability in the Middle East.


It brought together a big group of Heads of State, Ministers, Decision-Makers, Politicians and Leaders of the Business Communities and Academic Researchers to discuss, debate and address the energy and sustainability challenges of the future. In addition to encouraging actionable outcomes for carving a pathway toward sustainability worldwide.

The “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week" concentrated on a number of key pillars that included Policy Development, Leadership, Business Promotion, Awareness, Education and Innovation. These pillars were mirrored through conferences, exhibitions and various activities conducted during the week of the event.


The “Sustainability Week” has labelled the status of Abu Dhabi as a center for international energy and sustainable development. In addition to shedding lights on the country's lead in addressing issues related to sustainability, such as innovation, water security, and enhancement of business.The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was one of the distinguished participants in this event. It encouragingly instructed its employees across all of its Group Companies to attend this great event. Accordingly, employees at the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operation Ltd. (ADCO) attended in organized group forms during that week.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "MASDAR" and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was one of the distinguished speakers in this event. On this occasion, he said: “the Abu Dhabi Sustainability week confirms the keenness of the UAE to promote the sustainable development of the area, which today, has become an essential part of the UAE’s plans to promote economic growth, diversification of income sources, and build human capital. The UAE has become one of the fastest-growing and sophisticated communities up to date, thanks to its Leadership for foreseeing the future. Ensuring the security and sustainability of energy is a key focus of the UAE’s strategy, and innovation is the main tool of maintaining it. We, in the UAE, are also committed to strengthening our efforts in this regard through multiple “Clean Energy” projects, and through encouraging their adoption as an essential part of the energy variables.”
