Al Dhafra Festival Highlights UAE’s Historical and Environmental Heritage

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi had organized the 10th edition of Al Dhafra Festival that was held in the Western Region of the UAE from the 13th- 29th of December 2016. 
From the inspiration of a genuine Bedouin essence, the festival highlighted the importance of the UAE historical and environmental heritage. In addition to that, it played a role in strengthening the link between the past and present of the Emirati citizen. Amid a huge number of the most famous camel owners in the Arabian Gulf region, the sum of camels on this occasion reached more than 35 thousand.

 The festival included various activities and programs to entertain and serve the needs of the participants and guests. It involved a number of activities and heritage competitions of which were granted by awards that exceeded fifty million dirhams. Some of these were: The traditional camel racing, the Arabian horse racing, the falcon hunting competitions, and much more. Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, the President of the Committee Festivals and Cultural and Heritage Programs in Abu Dhabi, confirmed on this event: “Al Dhafra Festival has succeeded in promoting the heritage of the UAE, and reinforcing the efforts of maintaining and protecting it. The festival also contributes year after another in pinpointing the Western Region on the world tourism map, and defining it through the presented details of the UAE culture and traditions.”
